Boulder are hiring for a CG Feature …..
Boulder Media are hitting the road this February and March, visiting 7 European cities on the hunt for some talented people to come and join our new Feature Studio in Dublin 2.
The recruitment roadshow will have a hometown kick off on the 8th February in Tramline, D’Olier Street.

Environments Concept Designer – CG Feature
As part of Hasbro Entertainment, Boulder Media is building a new feature animation division. We are excited to offer a talented Concept Designer for Environments the opportunity to join our very successful and established animation studio as we expand into a new area. We will be producing the first CG theatrical feature film made entirely in Ireland. The movie is based on a very well-known Hasbro property and we can’t wait to bring it to the big screen for the first time.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with the AD and PD to help establish a consistent visual direction.
- Develop inspiring concept designs for locations, props and effects.
- Establish Light-Keys for the Lighting team.
- Understand and interpret colour scripts.
- Provide information to storyboards and 3D department.
- Create technical line drawings and turnarounds when necessary.
- Assemble influential research & reference material for the 3D team.
- Work effectively with the AD and PD so that they are aware of production concerns and issues dealing with creating concept art.
- Produce work in an efficient and timely manner, on schedule.
Person Specification:
- Must have at least 2 years experience working as a Concept Designer.
- Extensive knowledge of PHOTOSHOP.
- Strong knowledge of colour, lighting & overall composition.
- Knowledge of 3D modelling is a PLUS.
- An excellent understanding of the whole animation production process.
- Exceptional drawing skills.
- Good communication, visual storytelling and written skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills-able to interact with team members of different disciplines.
- Task driven, self-motivated, and proactive.
- Must be open to direction and can visually interpret other people’s ideas
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple tasks in a fast-paced production.

Dublin Animation Film Festival 2017
The brilliant Dublin Animation Film Festival celebrates its 7th birthday this year.
The festival runs from Friday the 20th to Saturday the 21st October featuring talks from Michael Dudok de Wit among others.

Hasbro Expands TV and Feature Film Capabilities with Purchase of Irish Animation Studio

PAWTUCKET, R.I.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) today announced that it has acquired Boulder Media, a multi-award winning Irish animation company based in Dublin. Boulder has produced a variety of award-winning series for Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney and BBC. As a wholly-owned subsidiary, Boulder will continue to produce animated series on behalf of third-party clients, in addition to producing animation projects for Hasbro’s best-known brands. Terms of the transaction, which closed on July 13, 2016, were not disclosed.

Blue Peter
After almost a year of waiting we can finally and very excitedly say that Boulder Media will be featured on tomorrows episode of Blue Peter!
The legendary kids show paid us a visit back in April to have a behind the scenes look at where and how Danger Mouse gets made.
Such a fun visit and a lucky few of the Boulder crew even managed to get their hands on some much coveted Blue Peter badges, one of which can be seen modelled by the lovely Melissa above.
So if you want a sneaky peak behind the scenes of Danger Mouse don’t forget to tune into cBBC at 5pm tomorrow.
Boulder are looking for experienced 3D Lighters
We are looking for experienced 3D Lighters to work on our exciting new 3D show.
The successful candidate will have the following skills and characteristics:
- A solid level of experience with 3ds Max and 3D software in general
- A good understanding of lighting and shading in Corona Renderer and Mental Ray
- Have a good understanding of multi-pass rendering and ensuring shots are delivered to a high standard to the compositors
- Have a good artistic eye for lighting, cinematography and composition. Photography experience is a plus here
- Be able to troubleshoot problems and have the desire to learn from other members on the team
- Be able to consistently hit the daily required number of shots and keep on top of deadlines
