Irish Animation Awards 2015

IAAs-2015Brill news for Boulder as both Fresh Cut Grass and Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja have bagged nominations in next months inaugural Irish Animation Awards in Dingle.

Fresh Cut Grass scooped a nomination in the Best Animated Short category and Randy Cunningham in the Kids Choice Best Animated Series category.

And as if the studio isn’t excited enough one of our current animators Thomas Young and former animators Anita Gaughan have both been nominated in the Best Student Film category for their films “Daisy Chain” and “Vertical Horizons”, jaysus we’re a talented bunch!

The Awards take place on the 13th March in conjunction with the Dingle Film Festival so if you want to find out more about the nominations or all the brilliant things happening in Dingle that week check the details here:

It’s almost Fingal Film Festival time again and this year you get lots of Boulder action with a screening of our very beautiful (if I do say so meself!) short film “Fresh Cut Grass” at the Animation Workshop led by Boulder Boss Rob Cullen.

A huge congrats to Shane Sadlier for fighting of some fierce competition to become the designer of the new official Boulder Crew t-shirt!

There was a crazy amount of effort and imagination that went into the design and the t-shirts look amazing so Shane we salute you!

Submissions open for Fingal Film Festival

26th – 28th September 2014

Submissions are now open for the 2014 Fingal Film Festival, which will take place in Movies@Swords from 26th – 28th September, Pavilions Centre, Swords, Co Dublin.  Now in it’s third year, the Festival has gone from strength to strength, connecting emerging voices in film with industry experts and independent creative filmmakers from around the world.

Emerging and established filmmakers alike can submit their shorts, features or documentaries, animation to the Festival, and those selected will be in the running for the eight prestigious awards announced on the closing night of the Festival.

The Awards categories are: Best Short Film, Best Feature Film, Best Irish Language Film, Best Documentary, Best Student Film, Best Animation, Best Fingal Newcomer and Best International Film. Deadline for submissions is June 30th, for more information see

The Festival is delighted to announce that award winning Dublin based Animation Company Boulder Media (The Amazing World of Gumball, Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja) will host the Animation Workshop, led by Emmy nominated Creative Director Robert Cullen. Details of other Festival workshops, featuring some of Ireland’s most exciting names in filmmaking will be announced in the coming months, offering emerging filmmakers the opportunity to enhance their skill set through hands-on events and networking opportunities.

The Festival is also screening at various venues throughout 2014 a selection of 2013 Festival favourites and Award winners as part of new initiative Fingal Indi Films on the Move, which kicks off in “ LIFT “ festival in Axis Ballymun this 9th – 16th April, a great opportunity to see some of last year’s highlights.(Go to website for schedule of screenings)

Fingal Film Festival was established in 2012 to provide a platform for local, national and international emerging filmmakers, offering encouragement and promotion for new work in a quality cinema environment. Previous industry experts who have participated in the Festival include multi-award winning animators Brown Bag Films, Bafta winning writer and director Aisling Walsh, former president of the Irish Society of Cinematographers Ciaran Tanham and award-winning producer Arthur Lappin.

Animation Dingle 2014

Animation Dingle time is upon us again with festivities kicking off at midday on the 15th March at the stunning St James Church in Dingle.

Last years event was a huge success so expect more of the same this year with Animation shorts, panel discussions and feature presentions featuring Oscar and BAFTA Award winner Richard Baneham and Oscar Nominated Tomm Moore on Saturday 15th March.

Tomm Moore will make a presentation on his latest animated feature film, ‘Song of the Sea’ discussing the process involved in creating the movie as part of collaboration between studios across five different countries.

Richard Baneham is an Academy Award and BAFTA winner for Best Visual Effects for his work on “Avatar”. He has also won awards for his work as an Animation Supervisor on “Lord of the Rings”; “The Two Towers” and “The Return of the King” Richard comes from a traditional Animation feature background but made the transition to CG while working on “The Iron Giant”. His other credits include; “The Chronicles of Narnia”; “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” and “Cats and Dogs”. Richard will be presented with the ‘The Murakami Award’.

Tomm Moore and Richard Baneham will also take part in a panel discussion on ‘Indy V Blockbuster’ at 3.15pm.
